Graduate Assistantships/Post Doctoral Research Associate Positions
We regularly seek top students interested in pursuing M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in quantitative fisheries science, as well as Ph.D. recipients looking to broaden their experience through Post-Doctoral Research Associate positions. Open positions for which we are actively recruiting students or research associates are below
- Cohort Recruitment of MS & PhD Graduate Students - Quantitative Fisheries Assessment and Management (in conjunction with fisheries faculty and affiliates of the QFC, Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, and Department of Integrative Biology)(发布10/15/2021)
- PhD student(s) - Decision Analysis and Modeling for Climate Resilience in the Au Sable River, Michigan(posted 2/4/2022)
Benefits to studying/working at the Quantitative Fisheries Center at Michigan State University include the following:
- QFC staff and students interact closely with Great Lakes fishery management agencies to provide useful information for address ongoing management challenges, such as evaluating how many salmon can be stocked in the Great Lakes to avoid predator-prey imbalance, strategies for controlling grass carp in Lake Erie, and assessment methodologies and harvest policies for managing migratory fish stocks.
- QFC staff and students frequently publish research results in high-impact fisheries science journals. The QFC leadership has a combined H-index score of 57 (i.e., Drs. Bence, Jones (former co-Director), Brenden, and Robinson have published 57 distinct papers with at least 57 citations per paper). The combined I-10 index for the QFC leadership is 217.
- QFC staff and students as well as staff and students from other Michigan State University Department of Fisheries and Wildlife faculty are heavily engaged in quantitative fisheries/wildlife research, meaning there is a large contingent of quantitatively focused individuals to interact with when conducting/designing research projects.
If you are interested in graduate studies with the QFC, please contact Travis Brenden (brenden@msu.edu) or Chris Cahill (cahill11@msu.edu) prior toformal application to the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife. Check out our individual web sites (Brenden,Cahill) as well as other information on the QFC web site to learn more about our specific interests and research areas.
